First things first. Since I specialize in vintage restorations,
I NEVER refinish a vintage guitar that still has its original finish.
I only refinish guitars that have been already stripped, refinished, or
structurally altered. I have spent the last 25 years researching the processes
that various guitar manufacturers used to finish their instruments. I
may lightly force a finish to crack, BUT I don't relic my guitars for
2 main reasons.
1) I primarily restore player guitars for "players" and natural wear
always looks better.
2) Personally I think they look cheesy.
I have nothing against those who do I just think I would feel stupid
doing it... Like I was "corking my bat" or something.
This site shows a small sample of some of my restorations over the years
many of my early years of refinishing are well documented.
