Repair: DeArmond 2000 Pickup

This is one of the new DeArmond 2000 pickups I was requested if there is anything I could do to make it sound better (more like the original). I think he assumed that since it looked like the old Dynasonic that it was a reissue and would sound something like one. Here are some pictures as I dissected it. From the pictures it is clear why this sounds nothing like the original, for comparison here is a

Looks like a Dynasonic	Oops where are the pistons
	With the base removed you can see the 2 bar magnets
Plastic spacer the magnets sat on also removed	Final brass spacer removed shows steel rods
