Mod: Rework a cheap aftermarket Mosrite copy pickup to vintage spec
This is cheap reissue pickup that was made to resemble and sold as a Moserite Reissue pickup. Sadly like many other reissue pickups I have seen, it is made to LOOK like the original but is NOTHING like it on the inside. It is akin to putting antifreeze in a Coke can and selling it as Coke!
Here is a pictorial of me dissecting a reissue side by side with the real deal, it concludes with me making a correct replacement pickup for the casing so it will sound AND look like the original.
I can do such rework for you as well for the cost of $130 per pickup.
Post repair notes
- The steel rods and ceramic bar magnet is woefully inadequate and in NO way could accurately reproduce the tone of opposing AlNiCo bar magnets and screw pole pieces.
- The Bobbin shape was WAY to tall and narrow and looked more like a Strat pickup. I constructed bobbin modeled after my vintage Moserite and wound with #43 wire.
- The pickup was potted in what appeared to be straight
paraffin wax which has an effect on the tone. I can leave it unpotted or lacquer or wax pot it if you wish.

Bottoms Reissue has a single Ceramic magnet like the cheap Fender reissues. The vintage has the opposing bar magnets. |
